FUN FACTS ABOUT THE CDT

 
  • It runs 3,028 miles between the U.S. border with Chihuahua, Mexico and the border with Alberta, Canada.

  • The trail passes through 5 states: New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana.

  • A complete thru-hike takes an average of 5 months.

  • It's the longest of the three trails that make up the the Triple Crown of Hiking, which includes the Appalachian Trail with 2,197 miles and the Pacific Crest Trail with 2,650 miles.

  • The average weight of a thru-hikers backpack fully loaded with a week's worth of food and water on the trail is 41.4 pounds.

  • Survey Says.... thru-hikers are:

    • 67% male

    • 31 years old (median age)

    • 75% from the United States
